Capitol Report with Rep. Matt Manweller
Rep. Matt Manweller, R-Ellensburg, talked with Capitol Report about highlights and lowlights of the 2016 legislative session. Manweller discussed legislation that has been successful, such as his bill designed to protect historic cemeteries for veterans. But he also discussed the lack of willingness of House Democrats to approve funding for charter schools. Said Manweller, "The Washington Education Association is just too powerful."
Meanwhile, the question of the use of the budget stabilization account, also known as the rainy day fund, for policy rather than emergencies, came up. Manweller, who favors austere spending and a traditional supplemental budget, made the remark, "Sometimes, the greatest victories in government are the things we don't do."
